ALICE IN WONDERLAND MOVIE
Helena Bonham Carter is the thing that - no matter how you felt about the movie - you will leave enjoying, because she is so great and so funny as The Red Queen. I think that Mia Wasikowska is a really good casting choice and she does a wonderful job as Alice and is really lovable in the movie.
The direction by Tim Burton is pretty good in the movie and the fact that he has a lot of great visual effects and a pretty well-written story is really something that I have missed for a lot time. This is a movie based on one of my favorite novels and I must say, that I really enjoy this movie. Tim Burton really hasn't impressed me in the later years and I think that his movies like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Planet of the Apes" and "Big Fish" failed big. 'I have had some scores of child-friends since your time,' he wrote to her after her marriage, 'but they have been quite a different thing.This is one of the few later Tim Burton movies that I actually like. The tale of Alices Adventures in Wonderland is one of the most popular childrens books in history. As historian Martin Gardner wrote in 1960’s The Annotated Alice, “A long procession of charming little girls (we know today that they were charming from their photographs) skipped through Carroll's life, but none ever took the place of his first love, Alice Liddell. She may not have given anyone more of a sense of wonder as she did for Carroll, however. Tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice in this imaginative twist on one of the most beloved stories of all time. Two years later, Alice died at the age of 82, but her legacy continues to live on.
In honor of the centennial of Carroll’s birth, a then-80-year-old Alice, traveled with her son and sister to New York City in 1932 to attend a Lewis Carroll exhibition and receive an honorary doctorate from Columbia University for “awaking with her girlhood’s charm the ingenious fancy of a mathematician familiar with imaginary quantities, stirring him to reveal his complete understanding of the heart of a child.” (In 1948, the handwritten work was given back to the United Kingdom and is now in the British Museum.) For her part, Alice remained activity in high society, and in 1928, sold the illustrated Alice’s Adventures Under Ground manuscript gifted to her by Carroll when she was a child to an American dealer for £15,400, or roughly more than $20,000 USD by today’s standards. He intended the donation as a gift to the children of the City and a memorial for his recently deceased wife Margarita (18911956), an enthusiastic linguist and reader who helped him to establish his publishing empire. Seemingly unable to recover from the shock of losing his two eldest sons, Reginald died in 1926.
